Energy In Design – “Our Philosophy”

The primary objective of energy efficient buildings must be to demonstrate the principles of design, construction and management for a future building that meets the occupantís expectations for a comfortable and healthy environment in an energy efficient manner for the whole life cycle of the building. This includes consideration for both the internal and external environments.

As design and management consultants, we seek to combine all of the above roles as one holistic enabling service. We see an increasing need to integrate energy efficient methodologies through the design phase of projects.

The integration of energy efficient designs through life cycle assessments, i.e. running costs and environmental impacts; will shape the future delivery of best practice in building design, construction, operation, maintenance and management.

MDA are accredited design advisors working for the UK Government’s Carbon Trust.

Evolving Energy Management
 
Retrospective improvements can be delivered through an array of tailored services designed to provide support and practical advice and subsequent implementation for energy saving projects.

 
Energy Surveys (consulting under the ‘Action Energy’ scheme – cost effective reduction of energy utilisation within buildings and processes, with flexible approach to understanding client needs and business operational requirements.
Full or partial ‘Monitoring & Targeting’ systems – the first step in total energy management system.
This will incorporate daily analysis profiling (utilising half hourly data collection, analysis and presentation), actual / target variance consumption and CO2 emissions. Information is collected electronically or based on reports/invoices for analysis, presented as a formal report on a monthly basis for each metered (and sub metered) utility.
Environmental Management Systems – full client liaison for ensuring all opportunities for saving energy are practicable, full cost analysis and feasibility, implemented and proven in order to achieve sustainable benefits across the business operation.

Renewable Energies
 
MDA Consultants act as a specialised energy consultancy offering an array of services in respect of renewable energy sources.
Additionally we can manage associated industry specific specialists, to deliver a full construction programme for renewable energy projects.

Full project management and commissioning- preparation and overview testing and commissioning specifications.
Prepare tender documents, review and management of contractors and equipment suppliers/maintainers.
One Stop shop for full turnkey project- helping businesses with suitable energy consumption profiles in order to develop their own green energy supplies.
Health and Safety advice on all relevant issues
Review of all contractor Method Statements and Risk Assessments.

Renewable Wind Energy

MDA Consultants act as a specialised energy consultancy offering through industry specific associates the following services in respect of renewable wind turbine energy.

Feasibility and design; providing for a specialist service from conceptual, technical and cost feasibility studies. This will include a variety of purchase and lease options for green electricity.

BREEAM©
(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)

A service available at both the initial design phase of development projects and for existing organisations seeking to establish their environmental benchmark. At design stage the BREEAM assessment will form part of the specified employers’ requirements and will influence elements of the building and MEPHS (Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health Services) designs.
At a later stage of incorporation BREEAM will detail the management and operational effectiveness of the building and its use in order to deliver a datum on which to move forward.
The objective in all cases being to maximise the environmental credentials of the development or building, in order to deliver to the end user/owner, dedicated sector measures of best practice in environmental design and management.

Building Regulation L2

Ensuring a development project conforms to Building Regulations in respect thermal efficiency and carbon emissions calculations, in accordance with CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) benchmarks.

LCA
(Life Cycle Assessment)

LCA is a method of evaluating the environmental impacts of a system taking into account its full life cycle, (e.g. abstraction, processing, transportation and disposal). This assessment considers all the impacts associated with the production and use of a system, from the first time that man has an impact on the environment till the last.
